Marconi Towers

Marconi Tower - Binghamton,NY

In 1913, Marconi designed an experiment to test if radio could be transmitted to a “fast moving objects” ie a train traveling 60 miles an hour.  Marconi’s company built four towers, 2 each in Binghamton and Scranton for this purpose.

After the “Yup, it works” result, the towers never again supported radio equipment.  Of the 4, this is the only one still standing.
